Some photo sessions are more than just work—they become part of your own story. This one definitely was.

The morning of Robert and Rayla Hearne’s 50th wedding anniversary photoshoot, I was in a rough place. Anxiety and depression brought on by Graves Disease and menopause had me feeling completely weighed down. I didn’t even want to get out of bed. But thankfully, I called my best friend—and she gently reminded me to put one foot in front of the other. She encouraged me to go for a walk and follow through with my plans for the day. I’m so glad I listened.

Because what waited for me that day was pure joy.

Robert and Rayla were an absolute delight. It was such a privilege to help celebrate their 50 years of marriage, a milestone that so few reach and one that deserves to be honored in a big way. Robert had all kinds of ideas for photos—my favorite kind of client! One of the most meaningful was incorporating the car they left their wedding in: a 1957 Chevrolet 210 that has been in their family since 1961 and has only had two owners.

We took photos with that beautiful car, at the house Robert grew up in (where he still lives), and where their children were raised. The entire shoot was steeped in legacy, love, and history. And while I always enjoy bringing my own creative ideas to a shoot, there's something so special about a client who brings their own vision and story into the frame.

I left that session feeling lighter than I had in weeks. There’s something about witnessing enduring love and generational roots that puts everything into perspective. It reminded me of what matters most—faith, family, and connection.

One verse that came to mind later that evening was: "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” – 3 John 1:4That legacy of faith and love was so evident in the Hearnes' life, their home, their story—and I was honored to help capture it.

To Robert and Rayla: Thank you for letting me be a part of your celebration. Your love is a beautiful testimony, and your legacy is something truly special.

And to anyone else struggling to get out of bed on hard days—I hope this story encourages you the way it encouraged me. Sometimes the thing that pulls us out of the fog is exactly what we were meant to walk into. 💛
